Tree Ferns

Few plants can provide such architectural beauty and drama in your garden as a tree fern or two.

Since they first came into the UK in Victorian times (used as ballast in returning cargo ships), our love and interest in them has flourished.

In previous years, availability of ferns was difficult, with ferns passing through many hands in the supply chain before reaching their final destination. This generally made tree ferns astronomically expensive and ownership prohibitive to all but the wealthy.

Our tree ferns are imported directly from the very best licensed Australian and New Zealand suppliers at least one year in advance of sale to ensure our plants reach you in a stable state of health.

You will find that our tree ferns are fully rooted and in very large pots, many carrying 2 or 3 flushes of huge, lush fronds (perhaps 20 or 30 fronds).

We have good reason to believe our ferns to be some of the healthiest, high quality specimens available for the sale in the UK today.

Range:

We carry a comprehensive stock of Australian and New Zealand tree ferns ranging in height from 1ft to 9ft, with greater heights available by special order.

All ferns are rooted into their containers and carry at least one flush of fronds.

Dicksonia:

- Antarctica

(Soft tree fern)

- Fibrosa

(Golden tree fern)

- Squarrosa

(Wheki)

Cyathea:

- Australis

(Rough tree fern)

- Dealbata

(Silver tree fern)

- Medularis

(Black tree fern)

Hardiness & Care:

We find all Australian ferns extremely tolerant of frost. In colder areas with frosts greater than -5°C it is prudent to offer some protection using straw or horticultural fleece. Hardiness of New Zealand ferns is generally good but varies according to species. We are happy to advise you on hardiness and siting of these ferns.

As with all tree ferns, keep trunks damp as much as possible and feed every 2-3 weeks into the crown with a seaweed-based liquid fertiliser in the growing season.
